Blogging has become so popular that everyone you know probably knows something about blogging or even has a blog or two of their own.

The first blog was published back in 1994 so it is a fairly new medium. It has come a very long way, though. There are a total of 115 blogging platforms that people can choose from, with 96% of bloggers using the WordPress platform.

That is a staggering 18.7 million blogs on WordPress alone.WordPress comes out as the best hosting platform. Its nearest competitor, Blogger, comes in a distant second at just over 751,000 blogs in total. Want some more information? Take a look at the infographic below.

With all that competition out there, though, you could end up with a lovingly written blog that is missing one important element – readers. It can be very disheartening, especially when you are starting out.

Readers are the lifeblood of every blog, without them, the blog has no real purpose. You will need to consider the readers at every stage of construction if you want your blog to be popular.

Fortunately, it is fairly easy to get this part right. Start out with top quality content – Google will mark you down for errors or duplicate content so make sure you triple check your work and NEVER copy and paste someone else’s blog.

Choose great photos to go with your content, maybe throw in a video or two and then market your blog well. Get it out there where the readers are – post to social media sites, share it with friends and family and get the word out there.

Once you have the marketing down, start all over again. Deliver great content that your audience wants regularly, and you will be able to build a popular blog.
