Here at FlowReader, we do our best to appreciate and value the things that have contributed to our development and helped us grow as a team and as a service.

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. The food, the family, the good spirits, and the gratitude – it’s a great day. However, the main thing that I enjoy about this holiday is the fact that everyone takes the time to reflect on the positive things in their lives that they are grateful for.

As professionals (and as humans), it’s sometimes easy to get caught up in the spirit of things and forget to just appreciate everything we are already lucky enough to have. That’s why, it’s important to take a breath and recognize the things we’ve achieved, learned, and experienced throughout the year.

Thanksgiving is just around the corner, so I thought it’d be nice to offer a few quick reminders of things we can all be grateful for ahead of next week’s big day.

#1 You get to be you.

You are special, and you’re lucky to be someone unique. Remember that you are an individual, and make sure you appreciate what makes you different from other people. We’re often encouraged to try and imagine other people’s perspectives, and while this can be important at times, it’s also nice to appreciate what it feels like to be ourselves.

You’re an amazing human being. Recognize what makes you special and what it feels like to be in your own shoes (rather than someone else’s). Make sure you set aside time once in awhile to take stock of your strengths, your weaknesses, and be grateful for who you are.

#2 You never stop learning

Life is an ongoing education of trial and errors that is constantly teaching you more about yourself and the world around you. It’s easy to forget about all the little steps that you take every day, which contribute to who you are and who you’ll become. Treat every decision, every mistake, and every regret as inevitable detours that lead to every success that comes your way.

Overcoming challenges are a normal part of your life and should be viewed as learning experiences. Celebrate what you’ve learned and don’t forget that your daily struggles are what make achievements possible. You should always appreciate the mistakes you make for the lessons they teach you.

#3 The people and places you see every day

G.K. Chesterton once said, “When it comes to life the critical thing is whether you take things for granted or take them with gratitude.”

Income and financial reward have very little bearing on the happiness we have in our lives. We sometimes forget to express gratitude for the things that deserve it the most. Often, this is because we believe they are givens – things that are not likely to change – and end up taking them for granted.

Look around you at the people and places you see every day. When was the last time you took a moment to deliberately appreciate them?

#4 You can smile.

According to Buffer Blog, the act of smiling not only makes us feel better, but it’s actually scientifically proven to help improve our happiness and our ability to gain insight. A smile can help alleviate stress that might be distracting you from whatever you need to focus on. Cracking a genuine smile and thinking some positive thoughts, can increase our productivity as well as our overall mood.

So, be grateful you’ve always got a smile on your side!

#5 You’re online reading this right now

Despite the fact that it feels like the internet is prevalent throughout the world – it’s not. It might sound crazy, but only a third of the world’s population has internet access. And even more shocking, nearly 774 million people in the world can’t read!

The simple fact that you’re online somewhere right now and reading this post, makes you lucky.

We all have a lot to be thankful for, as long as we take the time to consider our luck and give gratitude where its due. At the end of the day, if you’re able to take a step back, relax, and feel happy – be grateful!
